Faith is believing God exists and that he rewards those who diligently seek him.1 It’s believing God has a purpose and path he wants us to discover and live by.
How do we discover God’s will so we can live by it?
Principle #1: Use Your Brain
Often God has already given us what we need to make the right decision. But we hesitate. We want him to tell us exactly what to do. We wait for special revelation to remove all doubt.
God wants us to wrestle with tough choices and own our decisions.
Principle #2: Walk Closely with God
God doesn’t give us a map to follow. He gives us a guide to pay attention to.
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.”2
When we walk closely with God we put ourselves in position to be guided by him. He is then able to nudge us at critical moments in our lives.
Principle #3: Be Patient
Sometimes our greatest obstacle isn’t knowing God’s will. It’s being patient through the process God is using to accomplish his purpose in our lives. His timing is not ours and we often have to endure hard times to follow the path he has for us.
God’s purpose may be clear but his path and timing are often hidden.
Principle #4: Keep Moving Forward
Standing still limits your view. But taking a few steps can open sightlines and reveal things we couldn’t see before.
We don’t need all the answers to get started. We can make the best decisions possible with the information we have and trust God to give additional insights as we go.
