Is Blind Faith Necessary To Believe in God?
Blind faith happens when someone believes something even though there is a lack of evidence. Or maybe even in the face of counter-evidence. It means believing things without having true understanding, perception, or discrimination.
The Bible never advises people to have blind faith. Quite the opposite. When people use their powers of perception it should lead them to faith in God, not disbelief.
“There are three classes of people: those who see, those who see when they are shown, those who do not see.” –Leonardo da Vinci
When perception doesn’t lead to faith the Bible suggests it’s because of what’s happening inside the perceiver, not because there’s a lack of evidence.
“The hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear. They have closed their eyes—so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.” (Matthew 13.15)
If you don’t have faith, consider it may be caused by a lack of perception not a lack of evidence.
God calls us to have faith. You can do many things in life without it, but one thing you can never do without faith is please God.
“Without faith it is impossible to please God.” (Hebrews 11.6)
True faith in God is rooted in what has been revealed about him.
The Bible calls us to walk by faith and not by sight but the Bible never tells us to have blind faith or to take a leap of faith.
The kind of faith God calls us to might look radical but it’s always reasonable
